HDMI 2.0B | Backround

The HDMI Forum, to which 88 companies from the multimedia branch belong, released the new HDMI 2.0 specification on 4 September 2013. The most important new feature of HDMI 2.0 is the much higher data rate of up to 18 gigabytes per second it makes possible, with this being necessary for the latest 4K content with double the refresh rate. The High Speed HDMI cables with Ethernet made by in-akustik are HDMI 2.0B-compatible and therefore optimally suited to future requirements. This applies for lengths of up to, and including 3.0 m for HDMI cables in the “Star” category, and up to, and including 5.0 m for the “Premium” HDMI cables, with a length of 15 m possible for the “Exzellenz” cables due to an intelligent chip in the connector.

3D support and 4K resolution

The latest version of the HDMI® standard establishes critical infrastructure for implementing 3D video in the home, defining input/output protocols that will allow 3D displays and source devices to communicate through an HDMI® link. It’s a major milestone on the path to bringing true 3D gaming and 3D home theater to the mass market, supporting resolutions up to 1080p in 3D. 3D technology is evolving rapidly, with several competing approaches under development, so the HDMI® 1.4 specification establishes protocols for a number of popular 3D display methods, including: – Frame, line or field alternative methods – Side by side methods (full and half) – 2D plus depth methods

Important note:

Experience has shown that compatibility problems have occurred time and time again when installing HDMI components. The cause of these problems is often difficult to identify, as the individual components and cables usually function flawlessly, in turn, in other configurations. We therefore strongly recommend testing the entire signal chain using all planned components, including the cables, before installing them. This in particular when long cables are used and need to be installed. When installing the cables, also pay attention to whether a running direction must be observed. Long HDMI cables such as the Excellence HDMI2.0 cable with a length of 7.5 m or more, or the Profi HDMI2.0 fibre optic cable, feature active chips and therefore have a fixed running direction. Cables are sensitive! They must not be bent, squeezed or pulled, as otherwise they might be damaged.
